2. a recognition of the existence or truth of anything: the acknowledgement of our ignorance.
3. the recognition of the authority or validity of someone or something: the acknowledgement of the new government.
4. an expression of appreciation.
5. (plural) a statement made by an author, usually at the beginning of a book, expressing recognition of the people who assisted, or other works consulted, in the production of the book.
6. a thing done or given in appreciation or gratitude.
7. Law
a. an admission of a debt or obligation, especially a written admission that a debt is due.
b. declaration by a testator before witnesses that he or she has signed a will.
